Happy New Year to all of you! May 2018 bring you all much love, joy and above all plenty of travel! For me, I plan for this year to be filled with more travel. Adventures, weekends away, exploring more of my own countries - all in a bid to see a few more corners of the round world that we live in. In this blog, I want to share with you a brief overview of my own travel destination resolutions for 2018 and a little insight into what inspires me to want to visit each!
1. Cambodia
Since I planned a 4-6 month tour of Asia as a gap year around 6 years ago which I never managed to go on, Cambodia has crept ever up my list of places to visit. The interesting culture, colours, cuisine and of course the mythical Angkor Wat inspire me to want to travel there and I hope that this will be the year that I will finally be able to visit this beautiful country. If I can manage to tag Vietnam or Laos on as well...even better!
2. Iceland
I have already had the fortune of visiting Iceland as part of one of my geological field trips while I was at university and it really is a beautiful rugged country. I would, however, love to go back in a more photographic capacity this year and simply enjoy the vast landscapes and geology from a more relaxed viewpoint. It is simply stunning to witness the raw power of mother earth.
3. Ireland
Though it is really not far away, I have never been to the Emerald Isle. A number of road trips have already been planned and in the pipeline for both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland (for a number of years). Either would be a great one to add as completed for my travel bucket list. There is a magical pull to Ireland that I cannot quite explain. Maybe once I have visited, I will be able to put it into words!
4. Prague, Czech Republic
A few years ago, my friend and I went to the beautiful Budapest in Hungary. While looking for destinations, Prague was a very close contender for the weekend away. Unfortunately it was merely down to the timing and cost of the airfare. I would love to explore the old and picturesque Prague during a long weekend away. The old town looks magnificent and I am sure that there is plenty of exploring to be had!!
5. Scotland
As you may have gathered from one of my previous blogs, I fell in love with Scotland when I went a couple of years ago. The homeland of my Nanny, and one which I would dearly enjoy to explore more of. I simply love the wilderness and how you can really appreciate the beauty and quietness of nature. I would love to see more of the Isles and the western coast which I missed on my last tour there.
So there you have it! My top 5 places that I would like to visit this year. I am hopeful that I will have opportunity to visit other countries too and this list is definitely not my complete travel bucket list, however for now, here’s to a year of travelling.
What about you? Where are you planning on travelling to this year?
Happy travels!
