The secrets of a sleepy Italian Alpine village
Italy’s rugged nature is interlaced with history. Each valley filled with forgotten stories, abandoned houses and teachings to be shared beyond generations. Walking through these seemingly sleepy villages with no other tourists present, the hum of activity of everyday life working the land is evident. A humble life: at one with the unyielding nature of the mountains and away from the throngs of tourists. Despite hosting the Winter Olympics in 2006, summer tourism has yet to gain a strong foothold in these mountains of Piedmont in Italy as many opt for walking tours in the Dolomites or Tuscan hills. Yet tucked away in the Western Alps close to the French border and one of the longest valleys in the Alps, high Val di Susa shelters postcard-worthy forgotten villages and local traditions.
